About SYHI
Founded in 1976 by Joe Vernon, Saratoga Youth Hockey (SYHI) has been providing organized hockey to kids of all levels of ability in the Saratoga, NY region for 50 years. As in 1976, we still strive to meet Joe's dream of making ice hockey accessible to any child who wants to play.
SYHI is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit, community-based grassroots hockey program dedicated to providing all ages of youth participants with the opportunity to experience the great game of hockey. Our goal is to offer the best possible experience by encouraging, developing and advancing those youth participants through a structured program that emphasizes hockey skill development (to include skating, puck-handling, passing and shooting), having fun and learning the game. SYHI programs shall also emphasize good sportsmanship and respect for others through team play and a positive sense of responsibility to self and team and organization.
USA Hockey is currently the major governing body for the sport of ice hockey in the United States. New York State Amateur Hockey Association (NYSAHA) is one of the 34 districts that comprise USA Hockey and is the district which SYHI is affiliated with as a Tier II organization. Scholarships
Financial assistance is available through the Mark Paine Scholarship Program. SYHI is committed to ensuring that young athletes have the opportunity to participate in hockey, regardless of financial circumstances. To achieve that vision, the Board of Directors has partnered with the Paine Family, to offer a scholarship program in honor of Mark Paine, to celebrate Mark’s passion and commitment to hockey.
Families awarded a Mark Paine Scholarship may receive a full or partial reduction in their SYHI registration fees. All applications are reviewed confidentially by the SYHI Finance Committee, and the identities of scholarship recipients remain anonymous.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through December. However, we encourage families to apply by August 10th so scholarship decisions can be made before the first season payment is due on August 15th. Applicants will typically be notified of the committee's decision, including the amount of any scholarship awarded, within two weeks of submitting their application.

Associate Member of SYHI
Community members who do not have a child skating in our program, but are interested in supporting Saratoga Youth Hockey, and participating in members' activities, are welcome to join our organization as an Associate Member.
